I asked, "Messenger of Allah, regarding our private parts, which of them may we expose and which must we cover?"He replied, "Guard your private parts from everyone except your wife or those your right hand possesses."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what if people are together among one another?"He said, "If you can ensure that no one sees them, then let no one see them."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what if one of us is alone?"He answered, "Allah is more deserving of modesty before Him than people."
Reported by Abu Dawud (4017), Tirmidhi (2769), Ibn Majah (1920), Hakim (4/179-180), and Bayhaqi (1/199), all of them from Bahz bin Hakeem, with this same wording. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Bahz bin Hakeem and his father Hakeem bin Muawiya, for both of them are truthful narrators.
