When this verse was revealed, "And warn your closest kin" [Shuara 26:214], the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out to Quraysh, and they gathered together. He addressed them in general and in particular, saying:"Children of Kaab bin Luayy, save yourselves from the Fire.Children of Mura bin Kaab, save yourselves from the Fire.Children of Abd Shams, save yourselves from the Fire.Children of Abd Manaf, save yourselves from the Fire.Fatimah, save yourself from the Fire. I have no power to benefit you in any way before Allah, except that you have ties of kinship which I will keep moist with their due."
لما أنزلت هذه الآية: {وأنذر عشيرتك الأقربين}[سورة الشعراء: ٢١٤] دعا رسول الله ﷺ قريشا، فاجتمعوا، فعم وخص، فقال: يا بني كعب بن لؤي! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار. يا بني مرة بن كعب! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار. يا بني عبد شمس! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار. يا بني عبد مناف! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار. يا فاطمة! أنقذي نفسك من النار، فإني لا أملك لكم من الله شيئا غير أن لكم رحما سأبلها ببلالها.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Faith (204) through several routes from Jareer, from Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Musa bin Talha, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.His saying, "I will moisten it with its moisture," with the ba read either with a kasrah or a fathah, and bilal is the plural of bilal, meaning anything that moistens the throat, whether water, milk, or something else. The meaning of the hadith is, I will maintain family ties with you in this world, but I cannot avail you of anything before Allah. So said Suyuti.
