Nasai narrated it in Kubra (11283) from Zakariya bin Yahya, who said, Muhammad bin Yahya narrated to us, who said, Muhammad bin Abdul-Aziz bin Abu Rizmah narrated to us, who said, Salmuyah Abu Salih narrated to us, who said, Abdullah informed us, from Yunus, from Zuhri, and he mentioned it.Ibn Hajar said in Fath al-Bari (7/280), "Its isnad is sahih."Abdullah is Ibn Mubarak, and the one who narrated from him, Salmuyah, is Sulayman bin Salih al-Laythi. Salmuyah is his nickname, and he is among the narrators of the Sahih.His words, "monasteries" [Hajj 22:40], is the plural of sawma'ah, on the pattern of faw'alah, which is a raised structure reached by a staircase, that monks used to take for worship, withdrawing from people, whether they were among the People of the Book or the Magians. Today it is used for storing and grinding grain, so it is called "flour silos."His words, "and churches" [Hajj 22:40], is the plural of bee'ah, and it refers to the churches of the Christians.His words, "and synagogues" [Hajj 22:40], is the plural of salah, an Arabization of the word "salutha," and it refers to the synagogues of the Jews.His words, "and masjids" [Hajj 22:40], which belong exclusively to the Muslims.His words, "in which the name of Allah is much remembered" [Hajj 22:40]. The pronoun "in which" refers to all of these places of worship, because the remembrance of Allah is shared among all these groups, except that some of them associated others with Him in it. That is why Allah singled out the masjids for His remembrance alone, saying, "And that the masjids are for Allah, so do not call upon anyone besides Allah" [Jinn 72:18].
