The verse "Mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed the convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing" [Hajj 22:1] down to His words "but the punishment of Allah is severe" [Hajj 22:2] was revealed. The narrator said that it came down upon the Prophet ﷺ while he was traveling, and he raised his voice with it until his companions gathered around him. Then he said, "Do you know what day this is? It is the day when Allah will say to Adam, 'Adam, arise and send forth the portion destined for the Fire.' Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine will go to the Fire and one to Paradise."This weighed heavily upon the Muslims, so the Prophet ﷺ said, "Be steadfast, keep close to the right course, and be of good cheer. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, among all people you are no more than a mole on the side of a camel, or a small mark on the foreleg of a beast. Yet with you are two vast creations, and they have never been joined to anything without swelling its numbers, Yajuj and Majuj, along with those who have perished among the disbelievers of mankind and the jinn."
Abdul-Razzaq narrated it in his Tafsir (2/31) — this is his wording — as did Abd bin Humayd (1185). Ibn Hibban (7354) and Hakim (1/29 and 4/566) both graded it sahih, all of them through Mamar, from Qatada, from Anas, who mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs."
