Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for the people of the Fire who are its true inhabitants, they neither die in it nor live. But there are people whom the Fire touches because of their sins" (or he said, "because of their wrongdoings"), "and it puts them to death. Once they have become charcoal, permission is granted for intercession. They are brought forth in groups and scattered upon the rivers of Paradise. Then it is said, 'People of Paradise, pour water over them.' So they sprout like seeds growing in the silt left by a flood."A man from the gathering remarked, "It is as though the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had once lived in the desert."

Sahih
