The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Allah loves a servant, He calls Jibreel and says, 'I love so-and-so, so love him.' Jibreel then loves him, and he calls out in the heavens, saying, 'Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.' The inhabitants of the heavens then love him, and acceptance is placed for him on earth.And when He despises a servant, He calls Jibreel and says, 'I despise so-and-so, so despise him.' Jibreel then despises him, and he calls out among the inhabitants of the heavens, 'Allah despises so-and-so, so despise him.' They despise him, and hatred for him is placed on earth."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الله إذا أحب عبدا دعا جبريل، فقال: إني أحب فلانا فأحبه فيحبه جبريل، ثم ينادي في السماء، فيقول: إن الله يحب فلانا، فأحبوه. فيحبه أهل السماء. ثم يوضع له القبول فى الأرض. وإذا أبغض عبدا دعا جبريل، فيقول: إني أبغض فلانا فأبغضه. قال: فيبغضه جبريل، ثم ينادي في أهل السماء: إن الله يبغض فلانا فأبغضوه، فيبغضونه، ثم توضع له البغضاء في الأرض.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (2637) from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Jareer narrated to us, from Suhayl, from his father (that is, Abu Salih), from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Monotheism (7485) through another route from Abu Salih, except that he did not mention the part about hatred. Bukhari also narrated it (3209, 6040) through other routes from Musa bin Uqba, from Nafi, from Abu Hurairah, restricting it to only the first part of the hadith.Of similar meaning is what was narrated from Abu Umama, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Affection comes from Allah" (Sharik said, it means love, "and repute comes from the heavens. When Allah loves a servant, He says to Jibreel, 'I love so-and-so,' so Jibreel calls out, 'Allah loves' meaning He loves so-and-so, 'so love him.'" I think Sharik said, "so love toward him comes down to earth. And when He hates a servant, He says to Jibreel, 'I hate so-and-so, so hate him.'" He said, "Then Jibreel calls out, 'Your Lord hates so-and-so, so hate him.'" He said, I think Sharik said, "so hatred toward him spreads on earth."Ahmad narrated it (22271/22270), and this is his wording, and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (8/141) and Al-Awsat (3639), through routes from Sharik, from Muhammad bin Saad Ansari, from Abu Zabya, from Abu Umama, who said, and he related it. Sharik is Ibn Abdullah Nakhai, the judge, and he has poor memory.On this subject there is also what was narrated from Thawban, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "A servant continues seeking Allah's pleasure, persisting in that, until Allah says to Jibreel, 'So-and-so, My servant, is seeking to please Me. Know that My mercy is upon him.' Then Jibreel says, 'The mercy of Allah be upon so-and-so,' and the bearers of the Throne say it, and those around them say it, until the inhabitants of the seven heavens say it, then it descends to him on earth."Ahmad narrated it (22401) from Muhammad bin Bakr, who said, Maymun informed us, Muhammad bin Abbad narrated to us, from Thawban, and he related it. Tabarani narrated it in Al-Awsat (1262) through another route from Maymun bin Ajlan Thaqafi, from Muhammad bin Abbad, with the same content, but Maymun bin Ajlan Thaqafi is daif. Ibn Hajar said, "I think this Maymun is Ataa bin Ajlan, one of the weak narrators." Lisan Mizan (6/141).
