I heard the Prophet ﷺ say openly, not in secret, "The family of Abu," Amr said, "in the book of Muhammad bin Jafar there is a blank space here," "are not my allies. My ally is only Allah and the righteous believers."
سمعت النبي ﷺ- جهارا غير سر- يقول: إن آل أبي- قال عمرو في كتاب محمد بن جعفر: بياض- ليسوا بأوليائي، إنما وليي الله وصالح المؤمنين.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners (5990), from Amr bin Abbas, who said, Muhammad bin Jafar narrated to us, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Ismail bin Abu Khalid, from Qays bin Abu Hazim, that Amr bin As said (mentioning it). Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Faith (215), by way of Muhammad bin Jafar, with his chain of transmission.Its meaning is, my ally is whoever is righteous, even if his lineage to me is distant, and my ally is not whoever is not righteous, even if his lineage is close.
