The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among the worst of fabrications is that a man claims descent from someone other than his true father. Among the worst of fabrications is that a man claims his eyes saw what they did not see. And among the worst of fabrications is that a man attributes to me what I did not say."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: من أفرى الفرى من ادعى إلى غير والده، ومن أفرى الفرى من أرى عينيه ما لم تر، ومن أفرى الفرى من قال علي ما لم أقل.
Bazzar (211) narrated it, "Muhammad bin Miskin told us, Saeed bin Abu Maryam told us, Nafi bin Yazid told us, from Walid bin Abu Walid, from Yazid bin Had, from Abdullah bin Dinar, from Ibn Umar," and he related the hadith. Its chain is sahih. Walid bin Abu Walid is Abu Uthman al-Madani. The Hafiz said, "His hadith is weak." But the more correct view is that he is reliable and his hadith is sahih. He was deemed reliable by Abu Zura, Ibn Main, Ajli, Fasawi, and others.Bukhari (7043) also recorded it through Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Dinar, from his father, but he only included his saying, "Among the worst fabrications is a man claiming his eyes saw what they did not see." The word "al-fira" is the plural of "firyah," meaning a lie. And his saying "that a man claims his eyes saw what they did not see" means that he says, "I saw such and such in a dream," when he had not seen anything at all.
