Umm Ala, a woman from among the Ansar who had pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ, reported that when the Ansar drew lots regarding the housing of the Muhajirun, Uthman bin Mazun's lot fell to her household.Umm Ala said, "Uthman bin Mazun came to live with us. He fell ill, and we nursed him until he died. We wrapped him in his garments, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to us."I said, "May Allah's mercy be upon you, Abu Saaib. I bear witness that Allah has honored you."The Prophet ﷺ said to me, "How do you know that Allah has honored him?"I replied, "I do not know, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for Uthman, by Allah, certainty has come to him, and I do indeed hope good for him. But by Allah, even though I am the Messenger of Allah, I do not know what will be done with me."She said, "By Allah, I will never declare anyone pure after this." The hadith continues.
أن أم العلاء امرأة من نسائهم، قد بايعت النبي ﷺ، و أخبرته أن عثمان بن مظعون طار له سهمه في السكني حين أقرعت الأنصار سكنى المهاجرين. قالت أم العلاء: فسكن عندنا عثمان بن مظعون، فاشتكى، فمرضناه حتى إذا توفي، وجعلناه في ثيابه دخل علينا رسول الله ﷺ، فقلت: رحمة الله عليك أبا السائب، فشهادتي عليك لقد أكرمك الله. فقال لى النبي ﷺ: وما يدريك أن الله أكرمه؟ فقلت: لا أدري بأبي أنت وأمي يا رسول الله! فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أما عثمان فقد جاءه والله اليقين، وإني لأرجو له الخير، والله ما أدرى وأنا رسول الله ما يفعل بي. قالت: فوالله! لا أزكى أحدا بعده أبدا… الحديث.
