The Prophet ﷺ said, "Among them are those whom the Fire will take up to their ankles, among them are those whom the Fire will take up to their knees, among them are those whom the Fire will take up to their waists, and among them are those whom the Fire will take up to their collarbones."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: منهم من تأخذه النار إلى كعبيه، ومنهم من تأخذه النار إلى ركبتيه، ومنهم من تأخذه النار إلى حجزته، ومنهم من تأخذه النار إلى ترقوته.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Paradise, its description, and its inhabitants (33:2845), from Amr bin Zurara, who said, Abdul-Wahhab, meaning Ibn Ata, informed us, from Saeed, from Qatada, who said, I heard Abu Nadra narrating from Samura bin Jundab, and he mentioned it.As for the statement of Allah Most High, "It has seven gates, for each gate a portion of them is assigned" [Hijr 15:44], this means that each level has its own inhabitants among the criminals, each according to the severity of their crimes. As for what has been mentioned regarding the names of these levels and the inhabitants of each level, this is mere speculation with no evidence for it from the Book or from the sahih sunnah, since these are matters of the unseen known only to Allah . So keeping the books of tafsir free from such statements is more fitting than mentioning them. And Allah is the one whose help is sought.
