Ibn Abbas said regarding the verse "until, when the messengers despaired and thought that they had been denied" [Yusuf 12:110], reading it with the light form (kuzibu), that it carried that meaning there, and he recited "until the messenger and those who believed with him said, 'When is the help of Allah?' Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near" [Baqarah 2:214].I then met Urwa bin Zubayr and mentioned this to him.He said, "Ayesha said, 'Allah forbid. By Allah, Allah never promised His Messenger anything without the Messenger knowing it would come to pass before he died. Rather, trials kept befalling the messengers until they feared that even those with them might disbelieve them.'" She used to recite it as "and they thought that they had been disbelieved" with the heavy form (kuzzibu).
قال ابن عباس: {حتى إذا استيس الرسل وظنوا أنهم قد كذبوا} [يوسف: ١١٠]- خفيفة- ذهب بها هناك وتلا: {حتى يقول الرسول والذين ءامنوا معه متى نصر الله ألا إن نصر الله قريب} [البقرة: ٢١٤] فلقيت عروة بن الزبير، فذكرت له ذلك، فقال: قالت عائشة: معاذ الله، والله ما وعد الله رسوله من شيء قط إلا علم أنه كائن قبل أن يموت، ولكن لم يزل البلاء بالرسل حتى خافوا أن يكون من معهم يكذبونهم، فكانت تقرؤها{وظنوا أنهم قد كذبوا}- مثقلة-
