Kaab bin Ujra met me and said, "Shall I give you a gift? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us, and we said, 'We already know how to send greetings of peace upon you, but how do we send blessings upon you?'He replied, 'Say, O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bestow Your favor upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You bestowed Your favor upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.'"
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4797), and Muslim in the prayer (406), both of them through Hakam, who said, I heard Ibn Abu Layla say, then he related it, and the wording is Muslim's. His statement, "pleading with Us concerning the people of Lot", means that Ibrahim was pleading with Our messengers who had come to him with the good news and with news of the destruction of the people of Lot. He said, "He said, 'Indeed, in it is Lot.' They said, 'We are more knowing of who is in it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind.'"
