Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

Six men stayed behind from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Tabuk: Abu Lubaba, Aws bin Khidham, Thalaba bin Wadia, Kaab bin Malik, Murara bin Rabi, and Hilal bin Umaya. Then Abu Lubaba, Aws, and Thalaba came and tied themselves to the pillars of the mosque, bringing their wealth with them. They said, "Messenger of Allah, take this. It was this that held us back from going with you."He replied, "I will not release them until there is fighting."Then the Quran was revealed, "they have mixed a righteous deed with an evil one" [Tawbah 9:102], up to the words, "indeed, your prayer is a comfort for them" [Tawbah 9:103].

His saying, "And others have acknowledged their sins. They have mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke blessings upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing" 103
