He heard a man reciting a verse differently from how he had heard the Prophet ﷺ recite it. So he took the man by the hand and brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Both of you are reciting well, so continue to recite."As far as I know, he then said, "Indeed, those before you differed and were destroyed because of it."
أنه سمع رجلا يقرأ آية، سمع النبي ﷺ خلافها، فأخذت بيده، فانطلقت به إلى النبي ﷺ فقال: كلاكما محسن فاقرآ أكبر علمي قال: فإن من كان قبلكم اختلفوا فأهلكوا.
