Bakr bin Abdullah reported,

I was sitting with Ibn Abbas near the Kaabah when an Arabi came to him and said, "Why is it that I see your cousins giving people honey and milk to drink, while you give them nabidh? Is it out of need or out of stinginess?"Ibn Abbas replied, "Praise be to Allah, it is neither out of need nor stinginess. The Prophet ﷺ came on his mount with Usama riding behind him and asked for something to drink. We brought him a vessel of nabidh, and he drank from it and gave the rest to Usama to drink. He said, 'You have done well and acted nobly. Continue to do so.' We do not wish to change what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded."

His saying, "Do you consider the providing of water to pilgrims and the maintenance of Masjid al-Haram equal to one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the cause of Allah? They are not equal before Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people."
