Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

When Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib was taken captive on the day of Badr, he said, "Even if you have outstripped us in Islam, in emigration, and in jihad, we for our part used to tend Masjid al-Haram, give the pilgrims water to drink, and free the captive."So Allah revealed, "Do you regard giving water to the pilgrims and the tending of Masjid al-Haram as equal to the deed of one who believes in Allah and the Last Day and strives in the way of Allah? They are not equal in the sight of Allah, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people" [Tawbah 9:19], meaning that all of that was done while they were in shirk, and I do not accept what was done in shirk.

في قوله عزوجل: {أجعلتم سقاية الحاج وعمارة المسجد الحرام كمن ءامن بالله واليوم الآخر}
