Abu Hurairah said, "Abu Bakr sent me during that Hajj among the announcers on the Day of Sacrifice to proclaim at Mina that no idolater shall perform Hajj after this year, and no one shall circumambulate the House naked."Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman said, "Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Ali after Abu Bakr and ordered him to proclaim Surah Baraah."Abu Hurairah said, "So Ali joined us in announcing to the people of Mina on the Day of Sacrifice the contents of Surah Baraah, and that no idolater shall perform Hajj after this year, and no one shall circumambulate the House naked."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tafsir (4655) from Saeed bin Afir, who said, Layth told me, who said, Aqeel told me, from Ibn Shihab Zuhri, and Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf informed me, that Abu Hurairah said, and then he related it. Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Hajj (1347) through another route from Ibn Shihab, from Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman, from Abu Hurairah, who said, Abu Bakr Siddiq sent me during the pilgrimage that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had appointed him to lead, before the Farewell Pilgrimage, and he did not mention the Prophet ﷺ sending Ali with the declaration of disassociation. The declaration of disassociation from the polytheists during Hajj occurred only once, in the ninth year, for Makkah was conquered in the eighth year and became a land of Islam, though some polytheists remained around Makkah. They performed Hajj in the ninth year according to the pre-Islamic practice, going naked. So the declaration of disassociation came from Allah and His Messenger to the polytheists, stating that they should not perform Hajj after that year of theirs, and that no naked person should circle the House, in preparation for the Prophet's pilgrimage ﷺ the following year, in the tenth year, which is the pilgrimage known in the history of Islam as the Farewell Pilgrimage. After that, the declaration of disassociation no longer applied to them, since they were no longer present at Hajj, because Hajj had become exclusively for the Muslims, not for the polytheists. So the insistence of the Iranians on holding marches and protests for the declaration of disassociation to the polytheists during the days of Hajj has no meaning, for what they actually intend by it is to create chaos and strife among the pilgrims who are there in safety, and this is something entirely unacceptable. His saying, "the day of the greatest Hajj" [Tawbah 9:3], refers to the Day of Sacrifice.
