The Prophet ﷺ, regarding the verse "And when his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain" [Araf 7:143], said, "He did like this," meaning that he extended the tip of his little finger.Ubayy said, "Muaz showed it to us this way."
عن النبي ﷺ في قوله تعالى: {فلما تجلى ربه للجبل} قال: قال هكذا، يعني أنه أخرج طرف الخنصر، فقال أبي: أراناه معاذ.
Reported by Tirmidhi (3074), Ahmad (12260) - this is his wording -, Ibn Khuzayma in Tawhid (194-200), and Hakim (1/25 and 23/320, 577), all of them through routes from Hammad bin Salama, from Thabit Bunani, from Anas, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith, we do not know it except from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama." And Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith according to the criterion of Muslim."His saying, "the tip of the little finger" means that the mountain was manifested to with the slightest manifestation, and it crumbled, meaning it broke into pieces, becoming like sand. And the words of the Almighty, "and Musa fell down unconscious" [Araf 7:143], means he was overcome and lost consciousness.
