I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Allah created His creation in darkness, then cast upon them some of His light on that day. Whoever was struck by His light on that day was guided, and whoever was missed by it went astray. That is why I say, the pen has dried upon the knowledge of Allah
."
Ahmad (6644) narrated it from Muawiya bin Amr, who said, Ibrahim bin Muhammad Abu Ishaq Fazari told us, Uzai told us, Rabia bin Zayd told me, from Abdullah Daylami, who said, I went to see Abdullah bin Amr, and he mentioned it.See further, Kitab al-Qadar. The light is the noble Book of Allah, and the darknesses are ignorance and misguidance. Allah has given many examples of this in His noble Book. He said,"The blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are darkness and light, nor the shade and the scorching heat. The living and the dead are not equal. Allah makes hear whom He wills, but you cannot make hear those who are in the graves. You are only a warner." [Fatir 35:19–23]and other verses besides these.
