Bukhari narrated it in al-Adab (6117), and Muslim in al-Iman (37), both from the hadith of Shuba, from Qatada, from Abu Sawwar al-Adawi, who said, "I heard Imran bin Husayn," and he related it, their two wordings being identical. Bashir bin Kaab said, "It is written among the wisdom sayings that part of wisdom is dignity, and part of modesty is tranquility." Imran said to him, "I narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you narrate to me from your book?!"Muslim also narrated it through another route, from Ishaq bin Suwayd, that Abu Qatada reported, saying, "We were with Imran bin Husayn among a group of us, and among us was Bashir bin Kaab. Imran bin Husayn narrated to us..." and he related the hadith. Bashir bin Kaab said, "We indeed find in some books, or among the wisdom sayings, that part of it is tranquility and dignity, and part of it is weakness!"He said, "Imran became angry until his eyes turned red, and he said, 'Do I find myself narrating to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and you dispute it?!'" He said, "Imran repeated the hadith." He said, "Bashir repeated his objection, and Imran became angry." He said, "So we kept saying about it, 'It is indeed one of us, O Abu Najeed, there is no harm in it.'"
