Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

While we were gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the subject of trials and tribulations came up, or it was mentioned in his presence. He said, "When you see that people's covenants have become tangled, their trusts grown light, and they have become like this," and he interlaced his fingers.I rose and went to him and asked, "How should I act when that happens, may Allah make me your ransom?"He replied, "Stay in your house, hold your tongue, take what you recognize as right, leave what you recognize as wrong, attend to your own affairs, and leave aside the affairs of the general public."
