The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a great sermon, in which he said, "I have left among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray, the Book of Allah. You will be questioned about me, so what will you say?"They replied, "We bear witness that you have conveyed the message, fulfilled your trust, and given sincere counsel."He then raised his index finger toward the sky and pointed it down at the people, saying, "Allah, bear witness. Allah, bear witness. Allah, bear witness," three times.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Hajj (1218) through several routes from Hatim bin Ismail Madani, from Jafar bin Muhammad, from his father, who said, We went to see Jabir bin Abdullah and said to him, "Tell us about the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He then narrated it at length. His saying, "And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message" [Maidah 5:67]. Ibn Abbas said, If you conceal a single verse of what has been revealed to you from your Lord, you have not conveyed His message. And His saying, "And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people" [Maidah 5:67], meaning, O Muhammad, convey my message on my behalf, and do not fear, for I am your protector and helper. The Prophet ﷺ, before this verse was revealed, used to be guarded, as is mentioned in Sahihayn.
