Rabi, the paternal aunt of Anas bin Malik, broke the front tooth of a young Ansari girl. The girl's family demanded retaliation, so they brought the matter before the Prophet ﷺ, who ordered that retaliation be carried out.Anas bin Nadr, the paternal uncle of Anas bin Malik, said, "No, by Allah, her tooth shall not be broken, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Anas, the Book of Allah prescribes retaliation."The family then agreed to accept compensation instead.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among the servants of Allah are those who, if they swear an oath by Allah, He fulfills it for them."
كسرت الربيع- وهي عمة أنس بن مالك- ثنية جارية من الأنصار، فطلب القوم القصاص، فأتوا النبي ﷺ. فأمر النبي ﷺ بالقصاص. فقال أنس بن النضر-عم أنس بن مالك- لا والله لا تكسر سنها يا رسول الله. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: يا أنس كتاب الله القصاص. فرضي القوم وقبلوا الأرش. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إن من عباد الله من لو أقسم على الله لأبره.
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4611) from Muhammad bin Salam, [who said] Fazari informed us (he is Abu Ishaq Ibrahim bin Muhammad), from Humayd, from Anas, and he related it.Muslim narrated it in the qasama and combatants [chapter] (1675) via the route of Thabit, from Anas, in similar wording.
