When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Mecca, he refused to enter the House while the idols were still inside. He ordered them to be removed, and they were taken out. Among what was brought out was an image of Ibrahim and Ismail with divining arrows in their hands.The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah destroy them. They knew very well that these two never sought omens by such arrows."
أن رسول الله ﷺ لما قدم مكة، أبى أن يدخل البيت، وفيه الآلهة، فأمر بها فأخرجت، فأخرج صورة إبراهيم وإسماعيل في أيديهما من الأزلام. فقال النبي ﷺ: قاتلهم الله لقد علموا ما استقسما بها قط.
Bukhari narrated it in Al-Maghazi (4288), from Ishaq, who said, Abdul-Samad narrated to us, saying, my father narrated to me, Ayub narrated to me, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.As for what is found in Sahih Bukhari (3905), that Suraqa bin Malik bin Jushum, when he went out in pursuit of the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr while the two of them were on their way to Madinah as migrants, said, "So I sought guidance by the divining arrows, whether I would harm them or not. What I disliked came out, meaning, do not harm them. He said, so I disobeyed the arrows and pursued them. Then I sought guidance by them a second and a third time, and each time what I disliked came out, meaning, do not harm them. That happened by the decree of Allah, not by the working of the arrows, for seeking guidance by divining arrows neither harms nor benefits."And His saying, "Today I have perfected for you your religion and completed upon you My favor and have approved for you Islam as religion" [Maidah 5:3].
