I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated in praising the son of Mary. I am only His servant, so say, 'the servant of Allah and His Messenger.'"
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: لا تطروني كما أطرت النصارى ابن مريم، فإنما أنا عبده. فقولوا: عبد الله ورسوله.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Prophets (3445), from Humaydi, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, saying, I heard Zuhri say, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah informed me, from Ibn Abbas, that he heard Umar say on the pulpit, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, and he then mentioned it.
