He was married to a woman who had grown advanced in years, and then he married a young woman as well and gave her preference over the first. His first wife refused to accept this, so he divorced her with a single pronouncement, and when only a little of her waiting period remained, he said to her, "If you wish, I will take you back and you will bear with being passed over, and if you wish, I will leave you until your term expires."She said, "No, take me back, and I will bear with being passed over."So he took her back, and again he favored the young woman over her. She could not bear being passed over, so he divorced her, and again he favored the young woman over her. When only a little of her waiting period remained, he said to her what he had said the first time.She said, "Take me back, and I will be patient."This is the reconciliation about which we have been told that Allah Most High revealed, "And if a woman fears from her husband desertion or turning away, there is no blame upon the two of them if they settle matters between themselves in a reconciliation, and reconciliation is better" [Nisa 4:128].
في قوله تعالى: {وإن امرأة خافت من بعلها نشوزا}
كانت تحته امراة قد خلا من سنها، فتزوج عليها شابة، فآثر الشابة عليها، فأبت امرأته الأولى أن تقر على ذلك، فطلقها تطليقة، حتى إذا بقي من أجلها يسير. قال: إن شئت راجعتك وصبرت على الأثرة، وإن شئت تركتك حتى يخلو أجلك. قالت: بل راجعني وأصبر على الأثرة. فراجعها وآثر عليها الشابة. فلم تصبر على الأثرة، فطلقها وآثر عليها الشابة، حتى إذا بقي من أجلها يسير، قال لها مثل قوله الأول. فقالت: راجعني وأصبر، قال: فذلك الصلح الذي بلغنا أن الله تعالى أنزل فيه: {وإن امرأة خافت من بعلها نشوزا أو إعراضا فلا جناح عليهما أن يصلحا بينهما صلحا والصلح خير}
