Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Abdul-Rahman bin Awf and some of his companions came to the Prophet ﷺ in Mecca and said, "Messenger of Allah, we used to be honored when we were polytheists, but once we believed, we became humiliated."He replied, "I have been commanded to pardon, so do not fight."When Allah moved us to Medina, He commanded us to fight, but they held back. So Allah عز وجل revealed, "Have you not seen those who were told, 'Restrain your hands, establish prayer, and give zakah'? But when fighting was prescribed for them, at once a group of them feared the people" [Nisa 4:77].

His saying, "Have you not seen those who were told, 'Restrain your hands and establish prayer and give zakat'? But when fighting was ordained for them, at once a party of them feared men as they fear Allah or with greater fear. They said, 'Our Lord, why have You ordained fighting for us? If only You had postponed it for us for a short time.' Say, 'The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is better for whoever fears Allah, and you will not be wronged even as much as a thread inside a date seed.'"
