Mutarrif reported,

News used to reach me of a hadith from Abu Dharr that I longed to hear from him directly. When I finally met him, I said, "Abu Dharr, I have heard that you claim the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told you that Allah loves three and hates three."He said, "Yes indeed. Do you suppose I would lie about my dear friend, three times over?"I asked, "Who are the three He hates?"He replied, "The arrogant boaster. Do you not find this in the Book of Allah revealed to you?" Then he recited the verse, "Indeed, Allah does not love whoever is arrogant and boastful" [Nisa 4:36].I asked, "And who else?"He said, "The arrogant one who reminds others of his favors."

عن مطرف قال

كان يبلغني عن أبي ذر حديث كنت أشتهي لقاءه، فلقيته فقلت: يا أبا ذر بلغني أنك تزعم أن رسول الله ﷺ حدثكم أن الله يحب ثلاثة، ويبغض ثلاثة، قال: أجل، فلا أخالك، أكذب علي خليلي ثلاثا؟ قلت: من الثلاثة الذي يبغض؟ قال: المختال الفخور، أو ليس تجدونه عندكم في كتاب الله المنزل، ثم قرأ الآية: {إن الله لا يحب من كان مختالا فخورا} قلت: ومن؟ قال: المختال المنان.
