The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A servant's feet will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is questioned about four things, his life and how he spent it, his youth and how he wore it out, his wealth, where he earned it and how he spent it, and his knowledge and what he did with it."
This was narrated by Abu Bakr Ajurri in Akhlaq Ulama (114), Bayhaqi in Madkhal (493), and Khatib in Iqtida Ilm al-Amal (2), all of them through Mufaddal bin Muhammad Jandi, who said, "Samit bin Muaz informed us, Abdul-Majid informed us, from Sufyan Thawri, from Safwan bin Salim, from Adi bin Adi, from Sanabihi, from Muaz bin Jabal," and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Samit bin Muaz, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in Thiqat and said, "He makes mistakes and reports unusual things." Abdul-Majid is also truthful but errs, and the rest of its narrators are reliable. It has also been narrated with a daif chain from Abdullah bin Masud, from the Prophet, that he said, "The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about five matters, about his youth and how he spent it, about his life and how he used it up, about his wealth, where he earned it from and where he spent it, and about his knowledge, what he did with it."This was narrated by Tirmidhi (2416) through Husayn bin Numayr, who said, "Husayn bin Qays narrated to us, from Ataa, from Ibn Umar, from Ibn Masud," as a raised hadith. Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith. We do not know it from the hadith of Ibn Masud, from the Prophet ﷺ, except through the hadith of Husayn bin Qays, and Husayn bin Qays is weakened in hadith on account of his memory."I say, this Husayn bin Qays is Abu Ali Rahbi, one of those whose narrations are abandoned, and he alone narrated this from Ibn Masud, while the reliable narrators transmit it from the hadith of Abu Barza Aslami and Muaz bin Jabal, as mentioned previously. And Allah knows best what is correct.
