Some men go to battle while women do not, and we receive only half the inheritance. So Allah revealed, "And do not wish for that by which Allah has made some of you exceed others" [Nisa 4:32].
يغزو الرجال ولا تغزو النساء، وإنما لنا نصف الميراث، فأنزل الله عز وجل: {ولا تتمنوا ما فضل الله به بعضكم على بعض}
Tirmidhi (3022), Ahmad (26736), Ibn Abu Hatim in his Tafsir (4/935), Wahidi in Asbab al-Nuzul (p. 99), and Hakim (2/305, 306, 416) all narrated it through the route of Ibn Abu Najeeh, from Mujahid, from Umm Salama, and he related it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a mursal hadith." Some of them narrated it from Ibn Abu Najeeh, from Mujahid, in mursal form, that Umm Salama said such and such. Hakim said, "Its chain is sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, if Mujahid heard from Umm Salama."I say, yes, Mujahid did hear from Umm Salama, for he was born in the year 21 AH, and Umm Salama died in the year 60 AH, and Mujahid was never accused of tadlis, so his saying "from Umm Salama" should be taken as indicating a direct connection.
