The wife of Saad bin Rabi came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with her two daughters from Saad and said, "Messenger of Allah, these are the two daughters of Saad bin Rabi. Their father was martyred fighting alongside you at Uhud, and their uncle has taken their wealth, leaving them with nothing. They cannot be married off without any wealth."He said, "Allah will decide on this matter."Then the verse of inheritance was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for their uncle and said, "Give the two daughters of Saad two-thirds, give their mother an eighth, and what remains is yours."
Tirmidhi (2092) narrated it, and this is his wording, along with Ibn Majah (2720), Abu Dawud (2892), and Ahmad (14798), all of them from the hadith of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who related it. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih, we do not know it except from the hadith of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, and Sharik also narrated it from Abdullah bin Aqeel."I say, its chain is hasan because of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan. As for Abu Dawud, he narrated it from this route and attributed the story to Thabit bin Qays, then narrated it from this route in the story of Saad bin Rabi, and said, "This is more sahih."Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned the hadith of Jabir bin Abdullah in the tafsir of this verse, and mentioned it at the end of Surah Nisa in the verse on kalalah, which is more fitting. It will come in its proper place.
