Jabir bin Abdullah reported,
Jabir reported, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me and said, 'Jabir, why do I see you so downcast?'I replied, 'Messenger of Allah, my father has been martyred, leaving behind dependents and a debt.'He said, 'Shall I not give you glad tidings of how Allah received your father?'I said, 'Of course, Messenger of Allah.'He said, 'Allah has never spoken to anyone except from behind a veil, but He brought your father back to life and spoke to him face to face. He said, "My servant, ask of Me whatever you wish, and I shall grant it." Your father said, "My Lord, restore me to life so that I may be killed in Your cause a second time." The Lord 
replied, "I have already decreed that they shall not return." Then this verse was revealed, 'And do not think of those who have been killed in the way of Allah as dead' [Aal Imran 3:169].'"

لقيني رسول الله ﷺ فقال لي: يا جابر، مالي أراك منكسرا؟ قلت: يا رسول الله، استشهد أبي، وترك عيالا ودينا، قال: أفلا أبشرك بما لقي الله به أباك؟ قال: بلى يا رسول الله، قال: ما كلم الله أحدا قط إلا من وراء حجابه، وأحيا أباك فكلمه كفاحا، فقال: يا عبدي تمن علي أعطك. قال: يا رب تحييني فأقتل فيك ثانية. قال الرب عز وجل: إنه قد سبق مني أنهم لا يرجعون، قال: وأنزلت هذه الآية: {ولا تحسبن الذين قتلوا في سبيل الله أمواتا}.
Tirmidhi (3010) and Ibn Majah (190) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (7022) and Hakim (3/203–204) graded it sahih, all of them through Musa bin Ibrahim bin Kathir, who said, I heard Talha bin Kharash say, I heard Jabir, and he related it.Tirmidhi said, "It is hasan gharib from this angle. We do not know it except through the hadith of Musa bin Ibrahim. Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel narrated something similar to this from Jabir, and Ali bin Abdullah bin Madini and more than one of the senior scholars of hadith narrated it this way from Musa bin Ibrahim."I say, its chain of transmission is hasan because of Musa bin Ibrahim bin Kathir, for his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others, and this is one such case.As for the hadith of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel from Jabir, it was narrated by Ahmad (14881), Abu Yaala (2002), and Abd bin Humayd (1039), all of them through Sufyan, who said, Muhammad bin Ali bin Rabia Sulami narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, with his chain of transmission. In it, it says, "O Jabir, did you not know that Allah brought your father back to life, and said to him, 'Ask something of Me,' so he said, 'Return me to the world so that I may be killed again.' He said, 'I have decreed that they shall not return to it.'" Its chain of transmission is also hasan because of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan.There is no contradiction between the two hadiths, they merely differ in detail and brevity, and that goes back to Jabir himself, for he narrated it once in detail and another time in brief. Jabir's father was Abdullah bin Amr bin Haram Ansari, who was killed as a martyr on the day of Uhud.Jabir said, I began to weep and to uncover the cloth from his face, and the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tried to stop me, but the Prophet ﷺ did not stop me. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not weep for him" - or "do not make him weep" - "the angels have continued shading him with their wings until he was raised up."It was narrated by the two sheikhs, Bukhari (4080) and Muslim (2471).
