Ubada bin Walid reported,

My father and I went out seeking knowledge from this clan of the Ansar before they passed away. The first person we met was Abu Yusr, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, accompanied by a young servant of his. Abu Yusr had a bundle of written pages with him, and he was wearing a striped cloak and a Maafiri garment, and his servant was dressed likewise. My father said to him, "Uncle, I see traces of anger on your face."He replied, "Indeed. So-and-so, son of so-and-so, of the tribe of Judham owed me some money. I went to his house and greeted them, and I asked, 'Is he here?'They said, 'No.'Then a young son of his, still a boy, came out to me, and I asked him, 'Where is your father?'He said, 'He heard your voice and went into my mother's curtained alcove.'So I called out, 'Come out to me. I know where you are.'He came out, and I asked him, 'What made you hide from me?'He said, 'By Allah, I will tell you and not lie to you. By Allah, I feared that if I spoke to you I would lie to you, and that if I made you a promise I would break it. You were a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and by Allah, I am in financial hardship.'I said, 'By Allah?'He said, 'By Allah.'I said, 'By Allah?'He said, 'By Allah.'I said, 'By Allah?'He said, 'By Allah.'So he brought his written record of the debt, and I wiped it out with my own hand. I said, 'If you find the means to repay, then repay me. Otherwise, you are absolved.'I bear witness, with these two eyes of mine," and he placed his two fingers on his eyes, "and these two ears of mine heard, and this heart of mine retained it," and he pointed to the seat of his heart, "that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever grants respite to one in hardship, or forgives the debt for him, Allah will shelter him in His shade...'" and the rest of the hadith.
