Ibn Masud reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "No one increases his wealth through usury except that his affair ends in scarcity."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: ما أحد أكثر من الربا إلا كان عاقبة أمره إلى قلة.
This was narrated by Ibn Majah (2279) and Tabarani in al-Kabir (10/275), and Hakim graded it sahih (2/37), all of them through the chain of Israil bin Yunus, from Rukayn bin Rabee bin Umaylah, from his father, from Ibn Masud, who related it.Hakim said, "This is a hadith with a sahih chain of transmission."His words "to qillah" (diminishment) are like "dhillah" (humiliation), and in another version, "qalla" (it diminished) is like "al-dhull" (disgrace). That is, even though something may appear as an immediate increase in wealth, it ultimately leads to loss.His words "and gives increase for charities" [Baqarah 2:276] mean that He multiplies them and causes them to grow.
