Anas bin Nadr reported,

Rabi, the daughter of Nadr, broke the front tooth of a young girl. Her family sought compensation, and the girl's family asked for forgiveness, but they refused. So they came to the Prophet ﷺ, who ordered retaliation in kind.Anas bin Nadr said, "Will Rabi's tooth be broken, Messenger of Allah? No, by the One who sent you with the truth, her tooth shall not be broken!"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Anas, the Book of Allah prescribes retaliation."Then the people accepted compensation and pardoned her. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Among the servants of Allah are those who, if they were to swear an oath by Allah, He would fulfill it for them."

His saying, "O you who believe, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered, the free for the free and the slave for the slave and the female for the female. But whoever is granted pardon by his brother, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him in a good manner. That is a lightening from your Lord and a mercy. So whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment."
