I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when I heard him say, "Learn Surah al-Baqarah, for taking hold of it brings blessing, abandoning it brings regret, and the sorcerers cannot overcome it."Then he was silent for a while, then he said, "Learn Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al Imran, for they are the two luminous ones. They will shade the one who recited them on the Day of Resurrection, appearing like two clouds, or two shadows, or two flocks of birds in ranks. The Quran will meet its companion on the Day of Resurrection, when his grave splits open, in the form of a pale, gaunt man. It will say to him, 'Do you recognize me?'He will reply, 'I do not recognize you.'It will say, 'I am your companion the Quran, the one who made you thirsty in the scorching heat and kept you awake through the night. Every merchant looks forward to the gain from his trade, and today you stand to gain more than any merchant.'He will then be given dominion in his right hand and eternal life in his left, a crown of dignity will be placed upon his head, and his parents will be clothed in two garments whose worth the people of this world could never match. They will ask, 'Why have we been clothed with these?'It will be said, 'Because your child took hold of the Quran.'Then it will be said to him, 'Recite, and ascend through the levels and chambers of Paradise.' So he will continue ascending as long as he recites, whether quickly or with measured recitation."
Ahmad (22950), Bazzar - Kashf Astar (2302), Darimi (3435), and Hakim (1/560) all narrated it through the hadith of Bashir bin Muhajir, who said, "Abdullah bin Burayda told me, from his father," and he related it. The wording given is that of Ahmad, and it is also found in Ibn Majah (3781) in a very abbreviated form.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." I say, this is indeed so, except that Bashir bin Muhajir is disputed, though his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others and does not bring anything that would be rejected of him. This particular hadith contains nothing that would be rejected of him, since it has supporting witnesses, and Ibn Hajar graded it hasan in Matalib (3478).Bazzar said, its meaning is that its reward comes just as it has been reported that a single mouthful will come as large as Uhud, and he said, the shade of the believer is his charity, all of this refers to its reward.
