The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The example of the one who has memorized the Quran is like that of hobbled camels. If he tends to them, he keeps them, but if he lets them loose, they wander off."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إنما مثل صاحب القرآن كمثل الإبل المعقلة، إن عاهد عليها أمسكها، وإن أطلقها ذهبت.
Malik narrated it in the Quran (6) from Nafi, from Abdullah bin Umar, as mentioned.Bukhari narrated it in the Excellences of the Quran (5031), and Muslim in the Prayer of Travelers (789:226), both of them through Malik, in the same manner.His saying, "the hobbled one," means the one tied with a hobbling rope.
