The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Quran is an interceder whose intercession is accepted, and an accuser whose testimony is believed. Whoever places it before him, it will lead him to Paradise, and whoever places it behind his back, it will drive him to the Fire."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: القرآن مشفع، وماحل مصدق، من جعله أمامه قاده إلى الجنة، ومن جعله خلف ظهره ساقه إلى النار.

Bazzar narrated it - Kashf Astar (122) - and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (124), both of them by way of Abu Kurayb Muhammad bin Ala bin Kurayb, who said, Abdullah bin Ajlah told us, from Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Abdullah bin Ajlah and Abu Sufyan Talha bin Nafi, for both of them make a hadith hasan. It has been said that Talha bin Nafi, Abu Sufyan, heard only four hadiths from Jabir, and that he took Jabir's manuscript from Sulayman al-Yashkuri. I say, Sulayman is Ibn Qays al-Yashkuri, who is trustworthy, deemed trustworthy by Abu Zura and Nasai and others. This is why the two sheikhs relied on Abu Sufyan's narration from Jabir and included his hadith in their two Sahihs. As for his saying "mahil," it means a disputing adversary. In this same sense is what was reported from Abdullah bin Masud, who said, "The Quran is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted, and an adversary whose word is believed. Whoever puts it in front of him, it leads him to Paradise, and whoever puts it behind him, it drives him to the Fire."Abdul-Razzaq narrated it (6010) from Thawri, from Abu Ishaq and others, from Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid, who said, Abdullah said, and he related it. Its chain is sahih, except that it is stopped at the companion level. Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid is al-Nakhai, Abu Bakr al-Kufi. It has been reported as going back to the Prophet, but that is not sound. Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir (10/244) by way of Rabi bin Badr, from Amash, from Shaqiq bin Salama, from Abdullah bin Masud, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the like of it, as a raised report. But Rabi bin Badr is discarded as a narrator, and Haythami faulted the report on that basis in al-Majma (7/164).Nor is it sound what was reported from Ali bin Abu Talib as a raised report, "Whoever recites the Quran and commits it to memory, making lawful what it makes lawful and forbidding what it forbids, Allah will admit him to Paradise through it, and it will intercede for ten members of his household for whom the Fire had been decreed."Tirmidhi narrated it (2905), and this is his wording, and Ibn Majah (216), both of them by way of Hafs bin Sulayman Abu Amr, from Kathir bin Zazan, from Asim bin Damra, from Ali bin Abu Talib, and he related it. Ibn Majah abridged it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a rare hadith, we do not know it except by this route, and its chain is not sahih, and Hafs bin Sulayman is deemed weak in hadith transmission." End of quote. It is as he said, and we have discussed it at length in the book on faith.
