The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us while we were reciting the Quran, and among us were non-Arabs and bedouins. He listened and then said, "Recite, for every recitation is good. There will come a people who will straighten it as an arrow shaft is straightened, seeking its immediate reward in this world rather than its delayed reward in the hereafter."
خرج علينا رسول الله ﷺ ونحن نقرأ القرآن، وفينا العجمي والأعرابي، قال: فاستمع فقال: اقرؤوا فكل حسن، وسيأتي قوم يقيمونه كما يقام القدح، يتعجلونه ولا يتأجلونه.
Abu Dawud (830) narrated it through Humayd Araj, and Ahmad (14855) through Usama bin Zayd Laythi, both of them (Humayd and Usama) from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Abdul-Razzaq narrated it in his Musannaf (6034) from Ibn Uyayna, and Ibn Abu Shayba in his Musannaf (30626) through Thawri, both of them from Muhammad bin Munkadir, who said, the Messenger of Allah said ﷺ, as a mursal narration, and the connected version contains an addition from a trustworthy narrator. However, Daraqutni said in al-Ilal (3209), "The mursal version is more likely to be correct," and Allah knows best what is correct.His saying, "the arrow" refers to the arrow shaft used for shooting. His saying, "seeking it hastily" means seeking through its recitation the immediate benefits of this worldly life and status in it. His saying, "and not seeking it for a later time" means they do not intend by it the reward of the hereafter.
