While he was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and a man from the Jews was present, a funeral procession passed by. The Jew said, "Muhammad, does this corpse speak?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Allah knows best."The Jew said, "It does speak."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Whatever the People of the Book tell you, neither believe them nor disbelieve them. Say, 'We believe in Allah and His messengers.' If it is false, you will not have confirmed it, and if it is true, you will not have denied it."
Abu Dawud (3644) narrated it via Zuhri, who said, "Ibn Abu Namlah informed me that Abu Namlah Ansari told him," and he related the hadith. Ibn Hibban (6257) graded it sahih, narrating it from this same route. Ibn Abu Namlah's name is "Namlah." I did not find anyone who mentioned him with criticism or endorsement, except that Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book Thiqat. A group of narrators transmitted from him. Ibn Hajar graded this hadith of his hasan in Fath al-Bari (13/334).
