The People of the Book used to read the Torah in Hebrew and explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not believe the People of the Book, nor disbelieve them. Say, 'We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us'" [Baqarah 2:136].
كان أهل الكتاب يقرؤون التوراة بالعبرية ويفسرونها بالعربية لأهل الإسلام، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: لا تصدقوا أهل الكتاب ولا تكذبوهم، {قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل إلينا}- الآية [سورة البقرة: ١٣٦].
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4485) from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Uthman bin Umar narrated to us, who said, Ali bin Mubarak informed us, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.
