The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Recite the Quran once every month."I said, "I am able to do more than that."He said, "Then recite it in twenty nights."I said, "I am able to do more than that."He said, "Then recite it in seven, and do not exceed that."
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ اقرأ القرآن في كل شهر قال: قلت: إني أجد قوة، قال: فاقرأه عشرين ليلة قال: قلت: إني أجد قوة، قال: فاقرأه في سبع، ولا تزد على ذلك.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Quran (5054), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1159:184), both of them through the route of Shayban, from Yahya (that is, Ibn Abu Kathir), from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman, the freedman of Banu Zahra, from Abu Salama, who said (the speaker being Yahya bin Abu Kathir), and I think I said, I myself heard it from Abu Salama, from Abdullah bin Amr, and he related it.
