He said, "I was in Hims when some of the people there said to me, 'Recite to us.' So I recited to them Surah Yusuf."A man from among the group said, "By Allah, this is not how it was revealed."I said, "Woe to you. By Allah, I recited it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to me, 'You have done well.'"While I was speaking with him, I caught the smell of wine on him.I said, "Do you drink wine and reject the Book? You will not leave until I flog you."So I flogged him with the prescribed punishment.
قال كنت بحمص، فقال لي بعض القوم: اقرأ علينا، فقرأت عليهم سورة يوسف، قال: فقال رجل من القوم: والله ما هكذا أنزلت، قال: قلت: ويحك والله لقد قرأتها على رسول الله ﷺ فقال لي: أحسنت. فبينما أنا أكلمه إذ وجدت منه ريح الخمر، قال: فقلت: أتشرب الخمر وتكذب بالكتاب، لا تبرح حتى أجلدك، قال: فجلدته الحد.
