Zayd bin Thabit reported,

Zayd bin Thabit said, "I used to write down the revelation for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Whenever revelation descended upon him, he would be seized by intense distress and break out in a heavy sweat like beads of pearl. Then it would leave him.I would come in to him with a piece of a camel's saddle or a fragment of bone and write while he dictated to me. By the time I finished, my leg would nearly break from the weight of the Quran, until I would say to myself that I would never walk on my leg again. When I finished, he would say, 'Recite it.' So I would recite it back, and if there was any error in it, he would correct it. Then I would go out with it to the people."
