The Quran was sent down from seven gates in seven modes, all of which are sufficient and healing.
أنزل القرآن من سبعة أبواب على سبعة أحرف كلها شاف كاف.
Tabarani reported it in Al-Kabir (20/150) from Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, who said, "Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahim Abu Yahya narrated to me, Ali bin Thabit Dahhan narrated to us, from Asbat bin Nasr, from Suddi (he is Ismail bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Karima), from Abd Khayr, from Muaz bin Jabal," and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ali bin Thabit and Ismail bin Abdul-Rahman Suddi, for these two make the hadith hasan. As for Asbat bin Nasr, his hadith is graded hasan when it has a basis elsewhere. As for the phrase in the hadith, "from seven gates," it is not found in sahih hadiths, so it is an anomalous addition.
