The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no contagion, no Safar, and no hama."An Arabi said, "Messenger of Allah, what about my camels that are out in the sand like gazelles, then a mangy camel comes and mingles with them and infects them with mange?"He replied, "Then who infected the first one?"In another wording, "There is no contagion, no evil omen, no hama, and no Safar."
إن رسول الله ﷺ قال: لا عدوى ولا صفر ولا هامة. فقال أعرابي: يا رسول الله فما بال إبلي تكون في الرمل كأنها الظباء، فيأتي البعير الأجرب فيدخل بينها، فيجربها؟ فقال: فمن أعدى الأول؟ وفي لفظ: لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولا صفر
Bukhari related it in the Book of Medicine (5717, 5770), and Muslim in the Book of Greetings (2220), both through routes from Ibn Shihab, "Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman and others informed me that Abu Hurairah said," then he mentioned it.Bukhari (5775) and Muslim (2220:103) also related it, both through the route of Abu Yaman, "Shuayb informed us, from Zuhri, who said, Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman told me, that Abu Hurairah said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There is no contagion,' then a bedouin stood up," then he mentioned the rest similarly.Bukhari related it in the Book of Medicine (5757) from Muhammad bin Hakam, "Nadr told us, Israil informed us, Abu Husayn informed us, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah," and he mentioned it, but confined himself to the prophetic wording, without mentioning the dialogue with the bedouin.Tiyarah, with the ta kasrah and the ya fatha, means superstition, derived from tatayyur (taking omens). Its hadiths are recorded in the Book of Manners.
