The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to be cupped on the two neck veins and the upper back between the shoulders. He would have cupping done on the seventeenth, nineteenth, and twenty-first of the month.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يحتجم في الأخدعين والكاهل، وكان يحتجم لسبع عشرة، وتسع عشرة، وإحدى وعشرين.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (3860), Tirmidhi (2051), Ibn Majah (3483), and Ahmad (12191). Ibn Hibban (6077) and Hakim (4/210) both graded it sahih. All of them narrated it through various chains from Qatada, from Anas, who related it as mentioned. Its chain is sahih. The wording given is that of Tirmidhi and Hakim, while the rest confined themselves to the first part. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim)." As for Tirmidhi, he graded it hasan, because both his chain and Hakim's chain contain Amr bin Asim. Although he is among the narrators accepted by the entire community of scholars, there is something questionable about his memory, which is why Tirmidhi graded it hasan. Hakim said it meets the standard of the two Shaykhs, but it was in fact corroborated by others.Something with a similar meaning has been reported from Ibn Abbas, who said that the Prophet ﷺ had cupping performed on the two akhda veins and between the shoulders. This was narrated by Ahmad (2091) and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (12/95), both through the chain of Sufyan Thawri, from Jabir, from Amir Shaybi, from Ibn Abbas, who related it as mentioned. Jabir here is Jabir bin Yazid Jufi Kufi, who is daif by the unanimous agreement of the scholars, and Juzjani said of him, "A liar." The two akhda veins are two veins located on the two sides of the neck.
