Ubayy said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Show me what is on your back, for I am a physician."He replied, "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is the Physician. You are merely a kind man. Its true physician is the One who created it."
قال أبي للنبي ﷺ: أرني هذا الذي بظهرك، فإني رجل طبيب قال: الله عزوجل الطبيب، بل أنت رجل رفيق، طبيبها الذي خلقها.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (4207), Abdullah bin Ahmad in Zawaid Musnad (7110), and Abu Naeem in Tibb Nabawi (41-42), all from the hadith of Ibn Abjar, from Iyad bin Laqeet, from Abu Rimtha, as mentioned. The wording given is that of Abu Dawud. Ahmad's wording is, my father said to him, "I am a physician, so let me see this growth on your back." He said, "And what would you do with it?" He said, "I would cut it off." He said, "You are not a physician, but rather a well-wisher. Its physician is the one who placed it there."
