I said, "Messenger of Allah, the soothsayers used to tell us things, and we would find them to be true."He replied, "That is a true word which the jinni snatches and casts into the ear of his ally, then he adds to it a hundred lies."
قلت يا رسول الله إن الكهان كانوا يحدثوننا بالشيء، فنجده حقا، قال: تلك الكلمة الحق يخطفها الجني، فيقذفها في أذن وليه، ويزيد فيها مائة كذبة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Salaam (2228) from Abd bin Humayd, who said, Abdul-Razzaq informed us, Maamar informed us, from Zuhri, from Yahya bin Urwa bin Zubayr, from his father, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Medicine (5762) through the route of Maamar, and Muslim narrated it through the route of Maqil bin Ubaydullah, both of them from Zuhri with his chain of transmission, from Ayesha, who said, Some people asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about fortune-tellers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "They are nothing." They said, "Messenger of Allah, but sometimes they tell of something that turns out to be true." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is a word from the jinn which a jinni snatches, then whispers it into the ear of his friend the way a hen cackles, and they mix into it more than a hundred lies."His saying, "then whispers it," means he repeats the word into the ear of the one being addressed until he makes him understand it.
