The Prophet ﷺ said, "The evil eye is real," and he forbade tattooing.
عن النبي ﷺ قال: العين حق، ونهى عن الوشم
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Medicine (5740), and Muslim in the Book of Greetings (2187), both of them through Abdul-Razzaq, who said, Maamar narrated to us, from Hammam bin Munabbih, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Muslim did not mention tattooing. As for what Ahmad narrated (9668) with the wording, "The evil eye is real, and the devil is present at it, along with the envy of the son of Adam," this is daif. He narrated it from Ibn Numayr, who said, Thawr bin Yazid narrated to us, from Makhul, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it as a raised report. But Makhul never heard directly from Abu Hurairah.
